Akiko Haruna
Producer/composer Akiko Haruna manipulates rhythm into playful and cathartic forms. With a background in experimental dance and mixed-media composition, the disciplines bend between boundaries of raucous pop, club-ready percussion, dense electronics and cinematic soundscapes. Written, recorded, produced and mixed themselves, their debut EP ‘Be Little Me’, was released by Numbers in late 2021 following previous releases on labels Timedance and Where To Now? Their tracks marry dance music and elastic sound designs in a visceral inner realm, exposing emotions through electronics while anchored by meditations on gender, race and heritage.
In 2026, Haruna launches their new imprint, Haruna World, with the two-track EP ‘Manners Mask the man’. Expanding on their blend of avant-pop and fractured industrial club textures, the release unfolds with cinematic pacing, while companion piece ‘and the Dog’ serves as a psychologically tense narrative counterpart.
